Occupy protests cost U.S. cities 13 million USD

Occupy protests among 18 U.S. cities have cost 13 million U.S. dollars in "police overtime and other municipal services," according to an Associate Press survey released on Tuesday.The AP survey reported that the heaviest financial burden of the occupy movement has fallen upon law enforcement agencies tasked with monitoring marches and evicting protesters from outdoor camps.The survey showed that cost-per-city varies widely: New York City has spent the most with 7 million U.S. dollars. Oakland has spent 2.4 million U.S. dollars; Atlanta about 652,000 U.S. dollars, whereas Washington, D.C. has spent about 1,000 U.S. dollars.The survey gathered figures from government agencies in 18 cities with active protests and focused on costs through Nov. 15, the day protesters were evicted from New York City's Zuccotti Park, where the protests began Sept. 17 before spreading nationwide.
