Obama: US eases Myanmar sanctions

The United States will ease its economic sanctions on Myanmar while maintaining restrictions on ties with its military, President Barack Obama announced Wednesday. Obama said Myanmar is making progress towards democratic reform and that he wanted to encourage this, in a statement issued shortly after the arrival there of the first US ambassador to Burma in two decades.
