Nationwide march of unemployed people reaches Paris

Unemployed people who began a nationwide march through France in June have reached Paris, where supporters said unemployment is France's "number one problem." The long march ended with a protest at Place Stalingrad in the east of Paris with speakers and live music planned for later in the day, Radio France Internationale reported. The march began June 17, with about 200 people joining in at one point, organizers said. Those who participated in the march have demanded to meet with Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault to discuss France's unemployment crisis. So far, Ayrault has not agreed to meet with them. An estimated 3 million people are out of work in France. Danielle Simonnet, a left-wing candidate for municipal office in Paris, charged candidates from right-wing and socialist parties were not "interested in this march by our country's unemployed, even though unemployment is our number one problem."
