German Freight transhipment in maritime transport declined 0.4 percent in 2013 comparing with a year before, as German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported on Friday. Destatis reports that a total of 297.6 million tonnes of freight was transhipped in German sea ports in 2013, while the relevant volume of freight was 298.8 million tonnes in 2012. Container traffic was at 15.6 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) in 2013, which is an increase of 1.5 percent compared to 2012, according to Destatis. Unlike in the previous year, the container handling has performed overall better than the sea cargo handling, said Destatis.
