Valletta - XINHUA
Malta has appealed to the EU for specific funds to address road safety issues, a Maltese government press release quoted the minister for transport and infrastructure as saying. Speaking during the 6th European Road Safety Day held Friday in Athens, Greece, minister Joe Mizzi said funding would be allocated in particular for safety education for young children, and that the government would address the road safety problem through engineering, law enforcement and safer vehicles. Malta has just launched the Road Safety Strategy for 2014-2020, aiming to reduce fatal accidents by 50 percent, severe injuries by 30 percent and slight injuries by 20 percent by the year 2020.
