Jordan's consumers society criticise cell phone tax hike

The Jordan Consumers Society slammed the government for increasing taxes on cell phones and mobile communication services, the state-run Petra news agency reported on Saturday. The society said the rise is unjustified and will increase burden on citizens, adding that communication services are basic for all people and prices of such services are on a decline globally. On Thursday, the Jordanian government raised the tax on cell phones from 8 to 16 percent and the tax on mobile services from 12 to 24 percent.
