Japan's unemployment rate inched up to 4.6 percent in January from a revised 4.5 percent in the previous month, the government said on Friday. The figure was roughly in line with economists' forecasts. The unemployment rate for men stayed flat at 4.9 percent while that for women rose to 4.4 percent from 4.0 percent in December, the internal affairs ministry said. The ministry also said January household spending fell by an inflation-adjusted 2.3 percent year-on-year. The fall was bigger than a 0.8 percent drop economists had expected.
