Iran has decided to promote its refueling activities in the Persian Gulf for thousands of ships which annually pass through the strategic waterway, it was announced Sunday.General Manager of Hormuzgan’s Ports and Shipping Organization Ali-Akbar Safaee told reporters that based on official figures, some 53,000 ships pass through the Persian Gulf each year which need 16 million tons of fuel. Iran has decided to promote its refueling activities by increasing the capacity of its fuel tankers in the Persian Gulf region as well as the number of its bunkering vessels, Safaee said. He said that Iran’s private sector was to do the job. Hormuzgan province enjoys a 1,000 km coastline along the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
