New Delhi - KUNA

India on Wednesday extended a line of credit agreement of USD 144 million to Liberia for a power transmission project. The decision was taken here during the high level talks between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President of Republic of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who is on a four-day visit to India. "Our decision to sign a line of credit agreement of USD 144 million this morning is to fund a power transmission and distribution project in Liberia," Indian prime Minister announced during the meeting between the leaders of two countries. Besides, Singh announced that India will enhance scholarships and training slots under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Program for Liberia. Both countries also agreed that there was great potential to further strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations between the two sides. Singh noted that Indian investments in Liberia, especially in the mining sector, were growing, adding, liberia should facilitate Indian investment in agriculture, infrastructure, hydrocarbon, mining and manufacturing. The Prime minister said both countries felt an urgent need for reforming the United Nations Security Council. India has been deeply engaged in the UN peace-keeping operations in Liberia from a quite long time. It has deployed its troops including a separate unit of 125 members female as a part of UN mission to the country
