The Government of India Tuesday announced record production 257.44 million tonnes of food grain in its fourth advance estimates of production for 2011-12, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) announced today. The country produced 244.78 million tonnes for the corresponding period the previous year. This is highest ever food grain production by India surpassing all earlier records. Record production has been achieved in the case of rice (104.3 MT), wheat ( 93.9 MT), cotton ( 35.2 million bales), and sugarcane ( 357.7 MT), the PIB said. (QNA)
