
The humanitarian crisis in Yemen is the largest in theMiddle East, which needs about US$592 million to implement an emergencyhumanitarian response plan 2014, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen Johannes Van Der Klaauw has said.During his meeting with local media in Sana'a, the UN official made clear that 47percent of Yemen's population is in need of emergency humanitarian services."One of two people in Yemen are suffering from malnutrition and food insecurityand they are in need of urgent humanitarian help", Johannes said."About 13 million Yemenis are unable to access to clean and safe drinking waterand adequate sanitation. Moreover, about 10 million Yemenis are unable to getenough food".Johannes pointed out that more than a million children are suffering from a serveshortage of food and medicine."We have a plane to help about 7.6 million in Yemen through supporting them withnecessary humanitarian aid, including food, health, water and sanitation, shelter forrefugees and migrants and other vulnerable groups as children and women", hesaid.The UN official described Yemen as a fragile state, saying it suffers from extremepoverty and still suffers from internally displaced people, where 300,000 peoplehave displaced due to internal conflicts, adding that about 250,000 refugees comingfrom the horn of Africa are in need of aid."The deteriorating situation in Yemen will be put before the Friends of Yemen'smeeting to be held on April 29 in London", he said."Humanitarian and issues and situation in Yemen must be addressed in the meetingunless they will negativity affect on economic reforms, development and politicalprocess in the country", he added.
