Athens - AFP
A Greek Socialist deputy defected from the ruling party Tuesday over Prime Minister George Papandreou's decision to put last week's EU debt deal to a referendum, state television NET reported. The move by former deputy minister Milena Apostolaki, 46, reduced the government's majority to 152 deputies in the 300-seat parliament. Announcing her decision to turn independent MP, Apostolaki said the referendum was a "deeply divisive procedure," NET said.
