German investor sentiment in surprise rise

German investor confidence stabilised in December, with the ZEW indicator showing a surprise rise on Tuesday. The closely watched ZEW economic expectations index confounded analysts' expectations by rising 1.4 points to stand at minus 53.8 points, but it still remained far below the indicator's historical average of 24.6 points. In November, it had fallen by 6.9 points to minus 55.2 points, its lowest level in three years.
