The foundation stone for the new Doha port project will be laid down on Oct 10, according to the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority and head of the project''s steering committee. Abdel Aziz Mohamed al Nuaimi said that the project will include the digging of a canal ,building 2.7 km wave breakers and removing 3 mn cubic meters of rocks and sand. The first contract of the project was singed in January with a Chinese company valuing 3.2 billion riyals to dig the port''s dock yard at a depth of 17 meters and build the ports quays. He said local companies will participate in carrying out more than 50 percent of the 21 projects of the port which will be built at Mesaieed and is part of Qatar''s Vision of 2030. The port will have the capacity to handle 2 million containers by 2016 and could be expanded to handle 6 millions later on. It will create 20 thousand jobs while local cadres will be trained to operate it, he said .
