The United Arab Emirates (UAE) attracted in 2012 foreign direct investment (FDI) worth 9.6 billion U.S. dollars, much lower than the 14 billion dollars recorded in 2007, local news agency WAM reported Thursday. According to data released by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the UAE was also the third largest recipient of FDI in West Asia last year. "FDI to the West Asia region decreased by four percent in 2012 to 47 billion dollars, half the level of 2008," said the UNCTAD report.
