Hamas movement did not attend a meeting with representatives of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in Egypt to discuss ways to reach permanent arrangements to supply fuel to the only power plant in Gaza, Sunday said Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. Fayyad, in a statement released from his office, said President of the Palestinian Energy Authority Omar Kittaneh and Accountant General of the Palestinian Authority Yousef al-Zamer arrived in Cairo to attend the meeting that was scheduled on Saturday, in an agreement with Egyptian officials, but Hamas delegation did not attend. The PA delegation waited another day in Cairo, however Hamas delegation did not appear on Sunday either, added Fayyad. He expressed regret at Hamas delegation’s failure to attend the meeting, and praised Egypt’s efforts to overcome the current power-fuel crisis in Gaza. The meeting was supposed to agree on a mechanism to provide stable fuel supplies to Gaza’s only power plant and make arrangements for making the payment. A fuel shipment of Israeli diesel enough for one day entered Gaza through the Israeli Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing point on Friday following arrangements between PA, Egypt and Israel.
