EU pledges € 650m for Somalia

The European Commission Monday pledged 650 million euro to support Somalia at an international conference in Brussels. Making the announcement, EU Development Commisioner Andris Piebalgs, said" after more than two decades, the Somali people urgently need to see progress in the provision of basic services." "Today's high level conference on Somalia marks a milestone in EU-Somalia relations," he stressed. He noted that the EU has provided 521 million euro between 2008 and 2013 in development aid for Somalia.
