Amman - MENA

Egypt's Ambassador to Jordan has urged Egyptians working illegally in the kingdom to adjust their status. "I'm proud with the great contributions of Egyptian workers to the Jordanian economy," Ambassador Khaled Tharwat told MENA on Tuesday, noting that the Egyptians work in various sectors, including agriculture and construction. "The Egyptian workforce's contributions are appreciated but illegal workers are advised to rectify their position so as to avoid any brushes with the law," he said. Seeking work through legal means and legally binding contracts protects labor rights, he stressed. Jordan has 275,000 legally-registered guest workers and 62 percent of them are Egyptians, he said. He said that there are 180,000 Egyptians working illegally in the kingdom.
