Difficult for Dutch older than 55 to find jobs

A large part of the Dutch population older than 55 does not find a job after unemployment benefits dry up, Dutch newspaper Volkskrant reported Friday. According to research by the state job center, almost half the group older than 55 was without a job after benefits stopped. On average, they were entitled to 30 months unemployment pay. Without benefits, people shift into the welfare benefit system, provided they have no assets and an unemployed partner. A total of 75 percent of the total jobless population had found new employment within six months, but research showed that young people were much more likely to succeed than older workers.
