Aveda founder Horst Rechelbacher dies

Austrian-born health and beauty industry pioneer Horst Rechelbacher died of pancreatic cancer Saturday at his Wisconsin home, his family said. He was 72. Rechelbacher, who founded Aveda Corp., which he sold to Estee Lauder in 1997 and then started up Intelligent Nutrients, was surrounded by family and friends when he passed at his home in Osceola, KARE-TV, Minneapolis, reported. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. "The planet has lost one of its most passionate friends," Intelligent Nutrients said in a statement on its website. "To know Horst was to wake up to the world around you, to your own potential, to a new way of thinking. His impact truly does live on in salons, shops, fields and minds worldwide. And his mission continues."
