Arab funds have agreed to finance the establishment of steam power unit at Al Samra Power Plant, Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jaafar Hassan said Saturday. On the sidelines of the 41 annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) held last weekend in Morrocco, Hassan said he held meetings with the General Manager of AFESD Abdul Latif Al-Hamad and other officials, where the fund agreed to grant Jordan $191 million in soft loans to finance the establishment of a steam unit At Al Samra Power Plant. The Arab Fund's financial contribution will be around $ 107 million, the Saudi Fund $ 42 million and the Kuwaiti Fund $ 42 million, the minister said, noting that the establishment of this unit will generate about 150 MW of electricity without the need of using gas or fuel, he was quoted by Jordan's Petra news agency as saying.
