
ALGIERS- National Committee for Follow-up on Economic and Social Development Pact commitments, signed during the latest tripartite (government-UGTA trade union-employers) meeting, was installed Wednesday in Algiers. Composed of the representatives of the three contracting parties, the committee will have to make sure the commitments of the Economic and Social Development Pact are implemented, through assessment and follow-up mechanisms, the minister of Industrial Development and Investment Promotion, Amara Benyounes, said in an address during the installation ceremony. The pact is mainly aimed at speeding up economic reforms and developing social systems, such as health. It is also intended to encourage access to work, to strengthen partnership and upgrade companies. The committee is chaired by Rabiaa Kherefi, an executive at the ministry of Industrial Development. She will be assisted by two vice presidents, a representative of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) and a representative of employers' associations.
