Abu Dhabi - WAM

Abu Dhabi City Municipality, ADM, has replaced the old lighting systems with modern LED lighting system in six pedestrian tunnels in Abu Dhabi city. The Maintenance, Operation of Internal Roads and Public Squares Lighting Team of the civic body will prepare a study to replace the traditional lighting system with the LED lighting system in all 29 remaining pedestrian tunnels in Abu Dhabi Island in the second phase of the project. The six pedestrian tunnels include 2 pedestrian tunnels in Sheikh Zayed First Road, and 4 pedestrian tunnels along the Corniche Road. Ahmed Al Sayaari, Acting Director of Internal Roads and Infrastructure, said: "The pedestrian tunnels lighting project using the modern LED lighting system has contributed to reducing power consumption by 33%, improving visibility level in footpath tunnels, and significantly cutting the annual expenses of maintenance works." The new lighting system also contributes to reducing the maintenance cost and providing more visibility for pedestrians.
