The conference will address the challenges of governance in Arab countries by highlighting integration strategies and its application within long-term institutional plans to ensure continued corporate and economic sustainability in the public and private sectors. The focus of the conference will be on ‘Corporate Governance in the UAE ... Regulatory and Practical Perspectives’. It will also focus on analysing the current status of the application of corporate governance in the country and the region and how to create added value for companies through its optimal application. A key focus area will be on corporate governance and systems of banks in the state and its impact on protecting the banking system from financial shocks and crisis through lessons learned during the last few years. Mohamed Hilal Al Muhairi, Director General of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Abu Dhabi and Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Center for Corporate Governance, said: “The organisation of this conference for the third year in a row reflects its success during the previous years. The extent of the importance and increasing participation by senior officials and executives of the public sector, private companies and institutions is evident in the follow-up of the conference and attendance at on-going activities and how they utilise the discussions during the conference to their fullest advantage.” The conference is expected to attract a large number of academics and members of the boards of major companies, political analysts, decision makers and officials from the UAE and the region. A number of senior officials in this field from the Central Bank, Securities Commission and Commodities in the UAE and representatives from the Federal Government, the Government of Abu Dhabi, the Arab Monetary Fund and a number of other institutions in the GCC and Arab countries will also participate in the conference. Al Muhairi added: “The organisation of the Conference for the third consecutive year is a positive indication of the growing interest in corporate governance and its applications in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the State by all sectors. This in turn reflects the importance placed on the subject of governance and the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Center for Corporate Governance for the dissemination of culture and concepts of governance among companies, institutions and business sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular and the State in general.”
