US stocks extend slip in shortened trading

U.S. stocks closed lower in a shortened holiday trading on Monday as there is little time left for a fiscal deal in Washington. All three indexes slumped closing three hours earlier than normal, with the Dow nearly down 0.4 percent, the S&P dropping 0.3 percent and the Nasdaq declining 0.3 percent.
