Tokyo shares lost ground by ending the morning session Tuesday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average declined 37.90 points, or 0. 24 percent, from Monday to 15,436.60.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 3.27 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1, 272.92.
Decliners were led by metal products, machinery and consumer finance shares.
