Tokyo shares end higher by midday

Tokyo shares ended the morning session higher on Friday on hopes for additional monetary easing by the European Central Bank.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 73.28 points, or 0.44 percent, from Thursday to 16,865.76.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 7.31 points, or 0.54 percent, to 1,363. 66.
Gainers were led by utility, mining and glass and ceramics issues.
