Seoul shares down 0.84% in late morning trade

South Korean stocks traded 0.84 percent lower late Thursday morning, the first day of trading in the new year, as declines in tech shares and automakers weighed on the market, analysts said. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 16.89 points to 1,994.45 as of 11:20 a.m.
