Nikkei rebounds on US stocks gains, weaker yen

Tokyo stocks closed 0.83 percent higher Tuesday after the Nikkei sank to a nearly one-month low the previous day, supported by higher U.S. and European shares and a weaker yen. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 125.72 points, or 0. 83 percent, from Monday at 15,278.63. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 9.36 points, or 0.77 percent, to close at 1,232.31. Gainer included paper and pulp, metal and insurance sectors, and decliners were led by brokerage and air transport sectors. The turnover was about 1799.0 billion yen (about 17.47 billion U.S. dollars).
