Nikkei ends 1.37% higher

Nikkei ended 1.37 percent higher Friday after another volatile session in Tokyo, recouping some of the ground lost in its 5 percent dive the previous day. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average finished up 185.51 points, or 1.37 percent, from Thursday at 13,774.54, after climbing to as high as 13,916.56. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 1.36 points, or 0.12 percent, at 1,135. 78. Gainers were led by the fishery and forestry, metal products and real estate sectors, while decliners included sea transport, consumer finance and insurance firms. The turnover was about 3,244.1 billion yen (about 32.14 billion U.S. dollars).
