Nikkei ends 0.83% lower

Nikkei closed 0.83 percent lower on Monday. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shrank 89.10 points, or 0.83 percent, from Friday to 10,599.01. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 7.45 points, or 0.84 percent, at 881. 06. Gainers were service providers, retailers and food companies, while decliners included the securities, tire, paper and pulp sectors. The turnover was about 1,836.1 billion yen (about 21.03 billion U.S. dollars).
