Nikkei closes 1.19% lower

Nikkei closed lower Thursday after the BOJ's fresh monetary easing measures came in within market expectations. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed down 121.07 points, or 1.19 percent, at 10,039.33, its first loss in four days. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished down 0.73 point, or 0.09 percent, at 838.61. Decliners included mining companies, precision machinery makers and telecommunications firms. Gainers included utilities, rubber products makers and brokerage houses. The turnover was about 2,085.6 billion yen (about 24.77 billion U.S. dollars).
