Nikkei closes 0.36 percent lower

Nikkei closed 0.36 percent lower Tuesday. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed down 32.29 points, or 0.36 percent, at 8,975.15. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 3.07 points, or 0. 41 percent, to 744.88. Decliners included sea transport companies, machinery makers and metal products makers. Gainers included utilities, mining firms and glass makers. The turnover was about 910.3 billion yen (about 11.35 billion U. S. dollars).
