US aviation regulator: Boeing 787 design, manufacture safe

U.S. federal aviation regulators said Wednesday that Boeing Company’s design and manufacture of its 787 Dreamliner are safe despite several problems since its launch into commercial service last year. The report issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing said the airplane was “soundly designed” and met the FAA’s “safety level,” and the government had effective processes to identify and correct issues that emerged before and after certification. However, the review did make seven recommendations for further improvements in Boeing processes and FAA oversight, FAA Administrator Michael Huerta told reporters by telephone.
