Tesco annual net profit rises 6.0% to £2.80 bn

British supermarket giant Tesco said Wednesday that the group's annual net profit advanced 6.0 percent, boosted by rising global sales and despite a poor performance in its home market. Earnings after taxation hit £2.80 billion ($4.47 billion, 3.40 billion euros) in the 12 months to February 25, compared with £2.66 billion in the group's previous financial year, Tesco said in a statement, adding that a £1.0-billion investment programme was underway in Britain.
