Samsung loses share in handsets, gains in others

Samsung Electronics Co. saw the global market share of its mainstay handset business suffer a decline in the first half of 2014, data showed Monday, despite gaining ground in other sectors such as TVs, dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and display panels.
The world's No. 1 maker of smartphones' biannual business report showed its global presence in the handset industry came to 24.9 percent in the January-June period, down 1.9 percentage points from a year earlier. The company is estimated to have shipped 223.69 million units over the cited period.
