Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) Hashim Hashim said here on Thursday that the company has so far spent between 700 to 800 million Kuwaiti dinars (kd) in environment-related programs in its efforts to preserve environment during oil production operations. Hashim told reporters on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the beach-cleaning campaign held by the company today that the company's environmental programs include the burning of gas and others linked to oil production, pointing to other programs the company was anxious to implement such as reducing gas flaring to lower than one percent, which is the current ratio. He said that the company has a number of environmental projects to reduce the gas flaring from the current ration including gas development stations west of Kuwait and other projects in the north to improve the process to reduce the gas flaring in the event of any future developments for the treatment of associated gas in Mina Al-Ahmadi west of Kuwait. He pointed to the presence of other environmental projects, including two programs for the rehabilitation of the environment, one under the umbrella of the United Nations, indicating that the company has signed two projects for the rehabilitation of contaminated soil caused by the Iraqi invasion, besides other projects that have been ongoing for more than 15 years for the rehabilitation of contaminated soil.
