
It was late 1975 when Hyundai successfully launched "Pony," South Korea's first indigenous car that would stay in production until 1990. The model is still regarded as the face of South Korea's auto industry. Chung Se-yung, the younger brother of Hyundai Group founder Chung Ju-yung, who led the auto unit, is more well-known as "Pony Chung." Nearly 40 years later, Hyundai's newest generation of cars is nothing like the Pony. In fact, Hyundai is nothing like the Hyundai of those days. The Hyundai Motor Group, South Korea's second-largest business conglomerate and top carmaker, has set 2014 as the "coming out year" to become a truly world-class manufacturer of vehicles
