Russia’s government will elaborate measures on stimulating air carriers to buy domestically-built planes since dependence on foreign companies might have a negative impact amid sanctions against Russia [imposed by the European Union and the United States], Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday.
“The potential of the aviation sector is huge but now it is of top priority that the orders are placed inside the country,” Medvedev said at a meeting with his deputies.
“So we should encourage the [state-run air carrier] Aeroflot and other companies, while our manufacturers must prove that their planes are good as only talks will not be enough,” he said.
Medvedev recalled the incident with the Dobrolet low-cost air carrier which was forced to cancel its flights after European sanctions.
