Best Buddies Qatar (BBQ) recently hosted Qtel Group at its premises for a number of fun activities. BBQ managing director Laalei Abu Alfain greeted and welcomed Qtel Group officials headed by Cynthia Gordon. During the event, which was the first between BBQ and Qtel Group, BBQ Public Relations department manager Sheikh Mubarak bin Hamad al-Thani made a presentation about the organisation and explained its role in the development of society by enhancing the quality of life of intellectually-challenged people. Best Buddies is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one long lasting friendships between a person with intellectual disability and an able-bodied person. People with intellectual challenges are often excluded from the society because of their differences, however, BBQ is determined to end their social isolation and aimed to increase their self-esteem, confidence and abilities. Highlights of the event were colouring of the walls with students having intellectual disabilities sharing the fun of painting images of famous buildings in different countries such as Pisa Tower, Eiffel Tower, Kremlin, Sphinx, with those present on the occasion. The meeting ended up with a luncheon, gratitude speeches and an inauguration of awards for future co-operation. From gulf times.
