Apple acquires Israeli company PrimeSense

Apple has purchased PrimeSense, an Israeli company that specializes in motion-detection technology, for $350 million, an Apple spokeswoman said. The spokeswoman, Kristin Huguet, confirmed the deal late Sunday, Haaretz reported Monday. PrimeSense, founded in 2005, uses depth-sensing that identifies such things as hand movements, The Times of Israel reported. The Israeli company is best known for licensing chips used in Microsoft Kinect motion-sensing systems for the Xbox 360. PrimeSense's technology would most likely be applied to new Apple TV devices allowing users to subscribe to Internet television and media services, The Times said.
