Greece's new finance minister will be radical left-wing economist and author Yanis Varoufakis, the anti-austerity Syriza-led government announced on Tuesday.
The media-friendly Varoufakis, 53, who holds dual Greek and Australian nationality, will have the job of leading talks with the European Union over Syriza's aim to renegotiate the terms of Greece's 240-billion-euro ($269 billion) international bailout.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras made Panos Kammenos defence minister in return for leading his nationalist Independent Greeks (ANEL) party into a coalition government with Syriza.
