Tehran - Tehran
Iran and Russia inked a memorandum of understanding at the end of the fifth meeting of their joint transportation working group aiming to boost bilateral cooperation in the transportation sector. Iranian Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Ali Lotfizadeh and Russian Deputy Transportation Minister Alexander Davidenko signed the MOU in Moscow on Friday, IRNA news agency reported. On the sidelines of the meeting, Lotfizadeh said that holding joint meetings with other regional countries and facilitating the process of issuing visas for Iranian truck drivers were the main subjects of negotiations with Russian officials. The Russian official said for his part that Moscow is keen on strengthening its road, rail, air, and sea transportations with Iran, Press TV reported. He also called for making the best use of the two countries' potentials in this sector, and expressed hope for the formation of the North-South transport corridor under the supervision and coordination of Iranian and Russian officials. The North-South transport corridor would connect Iran, India, Russia, and Northern Europe
