Spanish PM of Economy Luis de Guindos
Madrid - XINHUA

The Spanish Minister of Economy and Competitiveness Luis de Guindos said on Monday "we want Greece to stay in the euro."

De Guindos made this statement at a press conference after the meeting held early in the morning by the members of the government's economic affairs committee.

De Guindos pointed out that they "want Greece to stay in the euro," but they also want Greece to obey the rules of the euro zone. He respects the result of the referendum, at the same time he encouraged Greece to obey the eurozone's rules as it is the "best guarantee" to avoid the 'Grexit'.

'Grexit' would be the worst scenario for Greece's citizens, he said.

De Guindos also pointed out that Spain is willing to negotiate a third bailout with Greece but said that "the problems and solutions that Greece has are exactly the same as two days ago," adding that the eurozone's rules had not changed.

Meanwhile, he assured the situation in Spain was not "comparable" to that of Greece, pointing out that the government would raise up its economic predictions despite the crisis in Greece.
