Three Slovak food producers have already complained to the authorities that they have suffered huge losses due to Russia's food import ban, local news agency TASR on Friday.
"They've recorded losses of 2.3 million euros (3.05 million U. S. dollars) to date," Slovak Agriculture Minister Lubomir Jahnatek stressed.
Jahnatek added that the financial damages to firms caused by the sanctions has reached 11.5 million euros (15.26 million U. S. dolalrs) in all.
He said that the Slovak food market has been affected only slightly by the current situation. Marked adverse impacts have occurred only in the case of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially apples.
Jozef Bires, director of the State Food and Veterinary Administration (SPVS), said the past two weeks have seen increased interest in food imports from Ukraine.
"There's big interest in imports of poultry of all kinds, for example," said Bires, adding that Ukraine is also interested in supplying the European market with fish.
