New Russian humanitarian aid convoy ready to travel to Donbass

A new humanitarian aid convoy is ready to head for Ukraine’s Donbass on Thursday, sources from the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situation’s National Crisis Management Centre told Tass on Wednesday.

The 26th humanitarian convoy of more than 100 vehicles will carry to the troubled Donetsk and Lugansk regions more than 1,100 tons of cargo, mainly foodstuffs, including tinned fish and milk, flour, rice and cereals, as well as essentials, construction materials and textbooks.

"The truck convoy of the emergencies ministry will start from the Rostov region early in the morning," the sources said.

"At the state border it will split into two equal parts, one of which will head for the Donetsk region, and another one - for the Lugansk region," they added.

The convoy is self-sustainable, having medics as well as technical personnel, who can repair vehicles if necessary. From August 2014, Russian humanitarian convoys have delivered to Donbass about 33,000 tons of aid.
