
Most of Russians believe that the quality of domestic products is much higher than food imports, the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (WCIOM) said on Wednesday.
According to the opinion poll, 64% of respondents trust Russian producers. Respondents over 60 years (74%) and residents of towns and villages (74% respectively) often share this opinion.
More people (24%) believe that Russian foodstuffs do not differ from imported goods. First of all, residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg (48%) and people aged 18-24 support this view. Only 8% of respondents say food imports are better.
As for products banned for import, most of respondents did not buy them earlier. Respondents said they mostly bought Spanish citrus fruits (43%), when 34% of respondents expressed readiness to give up them. One third of respondents (34%) purchased Norwegian salmon. However, 26% of respondents said they could give up it in the future.
One fourth of respondents (25%) buy Latvian dairy foods. But 20% of respondents said they can manage without them. The opinion poll said 27% of respondents bought Italy’s Parmesan cheese, and 18% of respondents could give it up. However, 9% of respondents are not ready to exclude it.
Some respondents (17%) bought U.S. chicken, 14% of them can manage without it. The survey was conducted among 1,600 people in 130 towns and cities on August 16-17. The margin of error was about 3.4%.
