Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has received John C. Tsang, GBM, JP, the Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and discussed with him the state of co-operation between the UAE and Hong Kong in financial, investment and trade areas.
H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, attended the meeting.
Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, on the content and objectives of the agreement for the avoidance of double taxation on income, signed by the UAE with Hong Kong yesterday. Al Tayer also informed Sheikh Mohammed of the highlights of another Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement that the ministries of finance in the UAE and Hong Kong will ink in the future.
The Vice President welcomed steps taken by the Ministry of Finance to regulate the trade, investment and financial relations of the UAE with other friendly countries, which he said aimed to realise the national and economic interests of the UAE people and the State and those of other countries.
In attendance also were H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director General of Dubai Ruler's Court, Lt General Misbah bin Rashid AI Fattan, Director General of the Office of the Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Khalifa Saeed Sulieman, Director General of Dubai Protocol Department, Essa Kazim, Governor of Dubai International Financial Centre, and a number of senior officials.
