
Malaysia is to benefit from opportunities brought by China's Belt and Road Initiative, a senior Malaysian official said on Saturday.
The Belt and Road Initiative, namely the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, which cover more than 60 countries with a total population of 4.4 bn, are set to bring opportunities to Malaysia, with a population of 30 m, said Ong Ka Chuan, second minister at the International Trade and Industry Ministry.
Ong told a forum that his country would actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, so that it will benefit its people from a huge market.
China is Malaysia's largest and one of its most important trading partners, he said.
In recent year, the two countries have achieved a trade volume of around 100 bn $, thanks to the joint efforts by the two governments and peoples.
