Japan's factory output rose 2.7 percent in September from the previous month, the steepest increase in eight months, official data showed Wednesday.
The expansion followed a 1.9 percent drop in August and grew at the fastest pace since January, thanks to strong domestic demand for vehicles and electrical parts, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said.
By sector, output for transport equipment makers gained 4.7 percent, while electronic parts and devices makers saw a 5.4 percent expansion. The ministry upgraded its basic assessment of industrial production of the world's third-biggest economy for the first time in one year, saying "It is moving in a seesaw manner." In August, the ministry said "It has weakened." Looking ahead, manufacturers polled by the ministry expect production will fall 0.1 percent in October and but grow 1.0 percent in November.
